Description

This drug is prescribed for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), prevention of venous thromboembolism (blood clot that starts in a vein) in patients having elective hip or knee replacement surgery, and prevention of pulmonary emboli (blood clot in a lung artery). It is used as prophylaxis against atherothrombotic events (sudden disruption of atherosclerotic plaque and blood clot formation) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and after an acute coronary syndrome with elevated cardiac biomarkers. It also serves as prophylaxis against stroke and systemic embolism (obstruction of an artery).
