In order to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, empagliflozin is recommended as a supplement to diet and exercise as follows:Monotherapy: When a patient’s diet and exercise are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control and the use of metformin is deemed inappropriate due to intolerance.Additional combination treatment: when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to achieve sufficient glycemic control, in conjunction with other glucose-lowering medications such as insulin.
