Nifedipine, an ingredient in Adalat LA, is a member of the class of drugs known as calcium antagonists. Adalat LA is prescribed to treat angina (chest discomfort) or elevated blood pressure. Adalat LA lowers blood pressure by widening and relaxing blood arteries. This reduces blood pressure and facilitates easier blood flow.
